OTF: Morning Box Scores – 4/13/12

Butler
It’s Friday the 13th today, but yesterday was anything but scary as the Brewers farm clubs lost two games and won two games and one of those losses did in an excellent starting performance.  So, what happened yesterday down on the farm?

Before we get into the action there was some movement within the system as OF Kentrail Davis and RPH Stan Manzaillo were placed on the disabled list, retroactive to 4/11/12.  That required some replacements and getting the call-up were RHP Eric Marzec from high-A Brevard County and RHP Brandon Williamson from low-A Wisconsin.

Back to the action on the field though and first up were the home state Wisconsin Timber Rattlers who returned home to Fox Cities Stadium to take on the Peoria Chiefs in the first of a seven game homestand for the T-Rats.  They made it a successful return as they won 4-2 behind some timely hitting and pitching.  Starter Drew Gagnon threw well, going 5 innings and giving up just 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 7, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

The most attention was centered on the Brevard County Manatees yesterday as harrolded pitcher Jed Bradley made his 2nd start of the season.  He pitched well but the ‘Tees couldn’t help offensively in a 2-0 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays.  The game lasted just 8 innings as rain called the game after a 30 minute delay.  Bradley gave up just 1 unearned run on 3 hits and a walk while striking out 4 in 6 2/3 innings of work.  His record moved to 1-1 but his ERA stayed at 0.00 after two starts.

Despite the losses of Davis and Manzaillo the Huntsville Stars bats weren’t quited down at all as they took down Birmingham in 6-1 fashion.  This one was over after the 2nd inning as the Stars put up three runs in each of the first 2 innings against the Barons and the pitching held solid the rest of the way to cruise to the victory.

The struggling triple-A Nashville Sounds continued to struggle as they dropped another game to the Oklahoma City RedHawks 2-0.  It was a classic pitchers duel and both sides held out unil the RedHawks broke through for the only runs of the game in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Sounds starter Josh Butler took the hard luck loss despite pitching 6 solid innings.  He gave up just 4 hits that produces 2 runs (1 earned) as he struck out 2 while walking none.

Player of the Day: Hunter Morris (Huntsville Stars) – Morris went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in 3 runs.  Two of his four hits were for doubles.  I don’t know how you could get much better in a winning effort as he was responsible for half of the teams runs yesterday.
