OTF: Morning Box Scores for 4/25/12

Monday wasn’t exactly a banner day for the Brewers farm system and yesterday they actually found a way to top Monday for pure suckage as they went 0-4 once again, but did so in a way I’ve never seen before.

In fact, we’ll lead-off with the game that led me to just shake my head and that came from Brevard County.  The Manatees took on Clearwater and it was an amazing pitchers duel that saw the ‘Tees go down 1-0.  It wouldn’t be so extraordinary but for the fact that BC pitcher Hiram Burgos took a no-hitter into the 9th inning but managed to take the loss.  He gave up his lone hit, a double, in the bottom of the 9th and the relief pitching couldn’t finish the deal, giving Burgos the following line: 8IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 9K.  That loss runs the ‘Tees losing streak to 6 games and now are two games below .500 on the year.  The hitting once again failed the starting pitching as they got 5 hits, but couldn’t do anything with those hits.

Low-A Wisconsin took another one on the chin as they lost 10-4 to the South Bend Silver Hawks once again last night.  It was a 5 run fifth inning that did in the Timber Rattlers as they were swept in the series and will look to get back to winning ways today as they return home to take on the Dayton Dragons.

Double-A Huntsville got blown away 8-1 by the division leading Jackson Generals as the Generals took the five game series between the two.  Things were manageable until a stretch of 1,2, and 3 runs in each of the 5th-7th innings for the Generals blew the game wide open.  Huntsville went into the bottom of the 9th before scoring their lone run and managed just 5 hits on the day.  Starter Josh Stinson was roughed up in just 4.2 innings of work, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs to take the loss.

Division leading Omaha extended the misery of the Nashville Sounds, taking the game 5-3 and extending the Sounds’ losing streak to 9 straight games.  It also means two straight sweeps by Sounds opponents.  So far it’s been a disastrous season as the results above bare out.  In this game the Sounds took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 4th, but they gave the lead right back and couldn’t battle back the rest of the game.

Player of the Day: P Hiram Burgos – On a day when the offense was totally less than stellar I have to give it up to a pitcher who nearly went the entire distance in a no-hit bid, but some hard luck saw him take a loss.  9K’s over 8 innings pitched and just one hit it still a great performance and you really can’t fault him for the loss since the guy coming in for him couldn’t pick him up.
