2010 Bucs Lookback- Faine, Jeff

Quick memo to all those who think the Bucs/Glazers do not use free agency- See our starting Center Jeff Faine, acquired in 2008 from the New Orleans Saints. Faine’s Free Agent signing by the Bucs made him, mark this down people, as the highest free agent signing by a Center, ever. So much for the “Glazers don’t spend money mantra”…

Faine is the unquestioned leader of the Bucs O Line, he is a captain, and he is missed when he is out. Jeremy Zuttah capably replaced him last year in his absence and is seen as the Heir Apparent at some point for Faine, but that time is not now.

Check out the hole for Earnest Graham Faine helps clear out….

On November 24th, 620 WDAE and the Bucs radio network had none other than today’s 2010 lookback subject as its host. You can listen to the entire broadcast right here…

Jeff Faine is a Notre Dame alumnus who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2003, making Faine a team-mate of Kellen Winslow Jr when the two both played for the Brownies in ’04 and ’05. Faine then signed with the New Orleans Saints where he quickly became a nemisis for then Bucs D lineman Chris Hovan.

One of the bigger signings for the Gruden/Allen regime was bringing Jeff here to Tampa Bay, where Center was a weakness. It was manned by undersized Sean Mahan and John Wade. Faine brought bulk and a meanness invisible to Bucs opponents before his arrival.
