Sometimes life stops, gives you a quick swift kick in the pants, then moves on again. Thats how I can best describe the events of the past 7 days. While doing our 2010 Bucs lookback and writing other things, Ive spent the last 7 days in a rat race trying to get life back in order again. One company made that entirely easy for me, and that was Geico.
Yes, that damn lizard. Or Gecko, whatever!
Last Tuesday I got into a car accident on Roosevelt and 49th street, couldn’t stop in time and rammed a Ford Explorer from behind with my 98 Ford Escort. That Explorer didn’t even look like it was scratched. My car on the other hand wasn’t as nice.
I got a nice little $166 ticket from FHP, and went home (the car was drivable) and called Geico to report the accident.
What happened after that was completely UNEXPECTED.
They made an appointment for me within the hour to take my car to one of their Concierge centers, that was located about 3 miles from my home. I told them I would need a rental while my car was being fixed.
I pulled in behind this silver Dodge, went inside, and within 5 minutes had the keys to that silver Dodge Avenger in my hands, and was told we will call you.
The adjuster Ron asked me if I wanted to hang around for a few to see what he thought initially, and I said sure, I had time. He said it looked ok so far, but that was before he couldn’t get the hood to open. The two of us could not find the hood latch, eventually he found it, about 8″ BEHIND where it should have been.
The accident pushed the radiator support beam backwards, and at that point he said I was probably looking at a total loss. The call would come in a day he said.
Sure enough, he was right, the next day he called, said the car was totaled, and that I could meet him any time to square up- Meaning, they would write me a check. I was at work, so I couldn’t do it then, I asked him to meet me the next day at a restaurant, and I went home to check out my options online.
Turns out you have NONE. Whatever the insurance company is going to give you, that is it! I looked up the Blue book value on www.kbb.com, and it came to 3200 in EXCELLENT Shape. The car only had 52,000 miles on it! It was excellent!
The next day I meet the adjuster and he hands me a check for 4000 dollars!!! WAY over Blue Book value!
I was able to get another car, and all within a week, because Geico let me keep my Enterprise Rent-a-car for 5 days after I accepted the check…a total of a whole week!
Hands down, Geico’s service, Ron Robinson, Kevin LaLiberte (West Coast Collision Center) and Nemanja Kuzmanovic, everything was unbelievable. I will NEVER change insurance companies, and you should seriously check out a quote from Geico.
Their service is FIRST RATE, and Enterprise Rentals was fantastic too. You wont give up anything by having Geico as your insurance Policy.
