The 2-1 Bucs were developing a scary trend under Tony Dungy; they were becoming a normal defense, not a dominating one anymore. This was especially true on third down, where opponents were averaging 50%, which is simply unheard of for a Tony Dungy/Monte Kiffin defense.
The Titans were crisp and sharp, especially on special teams where they got a late FG before the first half ended that extended the Titans lead to 17-7, and would end up making the difference in the game. The clock was counting down, yet with only 12 seconds on the clock the Titans got their special teams on the field and kicked the FG with seconds remaining. It was textbook clock management, coming from a head coach who was a special teamer himself.
While the Bucs passing game was respectable with 3 Brad Johnson Touchdowns, Brad himself was average at best; literally, with a 24 of 50 day, or 50% completions.
Keyshawn was his best target gathering 140 yards on 8 catches, but the Bucs could not run the ball; combing for 20 yards from both Alstott and Dunn.
This trend would continue, and after the game, Dungy told his team, they are ‘Average’ with their 2-2 record.
It was worth noting that the Bucs were out of this game at the end, but rallied to comeback and tie the game. The Bucs scored two touchdowns in the last 5 minutes.
