After the 2009 season (who are we kidding, after week 5 of the 2009 season) the question was going to be..Who do the Bucs draft with their high pick!? Suh was the first choice of many, I preferred McCoy, and I also offered up another option, UCLA’s Brian Price. Well Mark Dominik and Raheem Morris scored another victory; They got McCoy AND Price!
In many books, Price is the more explosive DT than McCoy, but Price takes up the DT position that is more Nose Tackle, and McCoy gets the 3 technique slot that Sapp made famous here in Tampa Bay’s defense. With the addition of Defensive Line Coach Keith Millard, and his “get in the backfield” philosophy similar to Rod Marinelli’s (former Bucs D line coach), both men could drastically improve their sack totals in 2011.
Price however had an injury right off the bat, probably due to lack of playing time during the offseason. Through no fault of his own, NFL rule prohibit a drafted player from participating (not counting the initial rookie OTA immediately after the draft) in NFL workouts until they have completely finished their academic year. Price did not finish his for some time, and missed a lot of work. He came in and had some strange injuries that eventually turned out to be hip related.
It could be serious too, one thing to check out as soon as the lockout is over is Price’s situation and health. Add in Roy Miller, and the Bucs have the making of a talented interior line.
Here is Price making some stops vs Cleveland in the opening game of 2010.
