All day today your reading and hearing about how football is coming back, and its going to be terrible. With only 11 days to get ready for a preseason football game, the quality will be horrible, blah blah blah.
For 60 years thats how football was played; Its only recently that players had to get together and do offseason classes and conditioning.
What has actually been lost during this offseason that everyone is complaining about a backlashing from fans?
Because if your looking for some kind of fan showing of solidarity, dont hold your breath.
In 1982 a full preseason was played, as well as two full games, then the players LEFT! There was no football for two months, and everyone went mad. When football came back, the players won all kinds of benefits, and fans came right back.
In ’87, same thing, only this time after a week of no football, the owners put scab players, or picket line crossers, in the same team uniforms! After three scab strike games that counted in the standings, the starters came back from the picket lines, the owners won this battle though they lost the war of free agency, and fans came right back to the stadium. So this time around, the effects were pretty much harmless from our point of view.
Were going to miss the Hall of Fame game, of which please raise your hand if you were planning on sitting down with some popcorn for that. Yes, we lost a lot of news and football talk and thats about it. Come to think of it, we probably had more news this way!
So lets get ready for some football! The Bucs are not going to bring in TOP free agents like everyone thinks. Instead the Bucs will sign or re-sign their own top players first and foremost. Then you will see the Bucs bring in free agents, but not anyone on the top of the top list. It will be this years versions of LeGarrette Blount.
