Welcome Aboard!

NOTE! Da’Quan Bowers has signed!
QUINCY BLACK has been signed to a 5 year 29 million dollar contract with 11.5 mil up front.

We here at the Bucstop would like to welcome aboard the newest members of the Buccaneers or welcome back members as they re-sign with the club.

Adrian Claybornclayborn

Position: Defensive End

Years Pro: Rookie

College: Iowa

Acquired: 2011 Draft, 1st Round, Signed to 4 year deal

Size: 6’3, 281 lbs

Pros: Excellent pass rusher, leader, strong, low center of gravity

Cons: Concerns with Erb’s Palsy, lack of explosion at the snap

2011 Outlook:  As the Buccaneers first overall pick in 2011, look for Adrian Clayborn to be starting at defensive end in 2011

Future Outlook: Should be the force at defensive end that the Buccaneers have lacked since Simeon Rice left the team

Mason Foster

Position: Middle Linebackermason foster

Years Pro: Rookie

College: Washington

Acquired: 2011 Draft, 3rd Round, Signed to 4 year deal

Size: 6’1, 245 lbs

Pros: Amazing tackler, has a nose for the football, leader, consistent

Cons: Not having minicamps will make it very tough for Foster to learn the playbook enough to call plays

2011 Outlook:  With the Buccaneers looking like they are shying away from Barrett Ruud, Foster may be thrown into the fire quickly, potentially starting at MLB

Future Outlook: Foster is the future MLB for the foreseeable future

Daniel Hardy

Position: Tight Enddaniel hardy

Years Pro: Rookie

College: Idaho

Acquired: 2011 Draft, 7th Round, Signed to 4 year deal

Size: 6’4, 249 lbs

Pros: Hands like Velcro, can catch in traffic, quick feet

Cons: Lack of size hurts blocking ability

2011 Outlook:  Hardy will be battling Ryan Purvis for the third TE spot on the roster.  If he doesn’t beat out Purvis, look for Hardy to be snuck onto the practice squad for 2011, getting him ready for potentially a late season fill-in or for 2012 and beyond

Future Outlook: Mark Dominik always seems to find diamonds in the rough of the 7th round.  Look for Hardy to learn from Winslow and be a potential weapon for a couple of seasons

Read More for Connor Barth, Derrell Smith, Raymond Webber and MORE!

Connor Barth

Position: Kickerbarth

Years Pro: 3

College: North Carolina

Acquired: Free Agent, 2009, Re-signed to 1-year deal as RFA

Size: He is a kicker, does it matter?

Pros: Very consistent from short, can make the long ones, 23-28 FG, 36-36 XP in 2010

Cons:

2011 Outlook:  After the Buccaneers tendered Barth to a 1-year deal worth almost 2 million, there is no way any other team will sign him, and no way the Buccaneers will just throw that money away.  Barth will be the Buccaneers’ kicker in the fall.

Future Outlook: Only signed to one year, Barth needs to prove himself again.  The Bucs are going to be reluctant to sign a kicker to a long term deal after the Gramatica and Nugent disasters, so Barth’s long term outlook is questionable.

Derrell SmithMEET THE BUCS! A little more detail on new Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Position: Linebacker

Years Pro: Rookie

College: Syracuse

Acquired: 2011 Undrafted Free Agent

Size: 6’0, 244 lbs

Pros: Finds the ball well, good run defender, intelligent, forces a lot of fumbles

Cons: Smaller than a typical linebacker, average tackling ability, too slow to play OLB

2011 Outlook:  As an undrafted free agent, Smith seems to be on the outside looking in.  However, if the Buccaneers do not sign a big-named MLB, Smith could be a 3rd string/special teams player.  If not, look for Smith on the practice squad.

Future Outlook: Assuming Smith makes the practice squad, look for him to hit the weights hard this year, add some weight and some tackling skills, and for Smith to compete for a backup spot again in 2012.

Raymond Webber

Position: Wide Receiverwebber

Years Pro: Rookie

College: Arkansas – Pine Bluff

Acquired: 2011 Undrafted Free Agent

Size: 6’2, 218 lbs

Pros: Catching machine in college with 101 receptions, 1429 yards

Cons: Unknown commodity having played at a small school and not against top college competition

2011 Outlook:  The Buccaneers are deep at wide receiver, so Webber seems to be additional depth.

Future Outlook: If Webber can impress the coaching staff against NFL competition, the Buccaneers will attempt to hold onto him for organizational depth, and could compete for a roster spot in 2012

Detron Lewis

Position: Wide Receiverlewis

Years Pro: Rookie

College: Texas Tech

Acquired: 2011 Undrafted Free Agent

Size: 6’0, 196

Pros: Great hands, can have huge games

Cons: Due to lack of size, can get lost in traffic, slow for his size (runs 4.6 40)

2011 Outlook:  I give Webber a better shot at making the team than Lewis

Future Outlook: Again, Webber seems to have a better future outlook than Lewis

Nick Reveiz

Position: Linebackerreveiz

Years Pro: Rookie

College: Tennessee

Acquired: 2011 Undrafted Free Agent

Size: 5’9, 230 lbs

Pros: Team captain, played in the Tampa-2 Under Monte Kiffin, hard worker

Cons: Small, needs to bulk up to compete in the NFL

2011 Outlook:  Anyone who comes into camp already knowing the defense has one leg up on the competition.  Reveiz intrigues me because of this, and could compete for a backup linebacker position depending on players who leave via free agency.

Future Outlook: Potential backup and special teams player down the road, Raveiz has a lot of work to do to ever crack the starting lineup.

Mike Coughlin

Position: Quarterbackcoughlin

Years Pro: Rookie

College: Boise St.

Acquired: 2011 Undrafted Free Agent

Size: 6’5, 212 lbs

Pros: Great size for a QB, good pocket presence and poise

Cons: Was a backup in college, so lacks experience, immobile, timing needs improvement

2011 Outlook:  The Buccaneers seem to be set at QB, so I don’t like Coughlin’s chances to make it past the first cuts

Future Outlook: Coughlin is a long-term project at best…a very long-term project

Josh Jasper

Position: Kicker

Years Pro: Rookiejasper

College: LSU

Acquired: 2011 Undrafted Free Agent

Size: I should just delete this line when it’s a kicker, that or try to find out his foot size

Pros: Strong leg, made 3-4 field goals from 50 yards and higher, only missed 1 field goal within 40

Cons: Shaky between 40 and 49 yards

2011 Outlook:  Having signed Connor Barth to a lot of money for this year, Jasper seems to be getting the Todd France treatment, an insurance clause in case Barth forgot how to kick.

Future Outlook: Jasper is on the outside looking in, and probably needs Connor Barth’s right leg to fall off in order for Jasper to make the squad

We here at the Bucstop would like to welcome back a Buccaneer who made history.  SANTA MARIA!

Michael Spurlock

Position: Wide Receiver/Kick Returner

Years Pro: 4

College: Mississippi

Acquired: Signed in 2007, Re-signed for 2011

Size: 5’11, 200 lbs

Pros: Stud kick returner, emerged in 2011 as more of a receiver and deep threat

Cons: Struggles on shorter routes

2011 Outlook:  Spurlock will be the man in kick returns again in 2011, and will also lineup as wide receiver even more, mostly on 3rd down and long.  Last year, he caught 16 passes, 12 were for first downs.

Future Outlook: Every year it seems the Buccaneers dangle Spurlock and every year he is back.  Some of those projects have failed miserably (see: Jackson, Dexter).  Until the Buccaneers find a kick returner who is better than Spurlock, he will be the kick returner for the next few seasons.
