Win the Close Ones

Nice look at the Colts’ performance in close games.  I hate the ‘great games’.  I’d rather win 50-3 every week than have games like the Miami one.  But if you have to play a nail biter, it’s nice to win it.

The Colts have played 57 games since the beginning of the 2006 season, including playoffs. Thirty-three have been decided by seven points or fewer. That’s 57.9 percent, almost six of 10.

The Colts have gone 24-9 in those 33 games, a .727 winning percentage. That’s 9-3 in 2006, the world championship season, 5-4 in 2007, 8-2 in 2008 and 2-0 this season.

Winning the close games is the difference between 8-8 or 9-7 and 12-4. It has enabled the Colts to win 12 or more games an NFL-record six consecutive seasons. It has separated them from the pack.
