TAMPA – Playing at home for the first time in the 2010 preseason, the Buccaneers forced three Kansas City Chiefs turnovers while racking up more than 300 yards of offense en route to their first victory. Starting QB Josh Freeman left the game after the first series because of a thumb injury, but backup quarterbacks Josh Johnson and Rudy Carpenter finished the game with 122.9 and 132.5 quarterback ratings, respectively. Tampa Bay forced a Chiefs turnover three plays into the opening drive, as DE Kyle Moore stripped RB Thomas Jones and LB Geno Hayes recovered at the Kansas City 41-yard line. Seven plays later, K Connor Barth connected from 31 yards to give the Buccaneers an early 3-0 lead. The Chiefs responded on their next possession, driving 47 yards in eight plays, as QB Matt Cassel found WR Jeremy Horne for a six-yard touchdown. Tampa Bay regained the lead on their first drive of the second quarter, as Johnson hit WR Micheal Spurlock, who broke a tackle and raced 53 yards for a touchdown and a 10-7 Buccaneers lead. Kansas City tied the game at 10-10 on the final play of the first half, when K Ryan Succop hit a 28-yard field goal. The Chiefs provided the only points of the third quarter, as Succop connected from 29 yards out to give Kansas City a 13-10 lead. On the Chiefs’ first drive of the fourth quarter, CB Derrick Roberson picked-off a deflected QB Tyler Palko pass, giving the Buccaneers possession at the Chiefs 41-yard line. Five plays later, Barth tacked on a 36-yard field goal to tie the game at 13-13 with 9:42 remaining in the contest. The Bucs defense forced a Kansas City three-and-out on the ensuing drive and, on the resulting possession, Tampa Bay took the lead. Set-up by RB Carlos Brown’s 26-yard run, QB Rudy Carpenter connected on a five-yard touchdown pass with WR Terrence Nunn to put the Buccaneers in front 20-13. Kansas City drove deep into Buccaneers territory on its next possession, but WR Rich Gunnell was stopped at the Buccaneers two-yard line on fourth down, with just over one minute remaining in the game. On fourth down of the resulting possession, the Buccaneers intentionally took a safety to make the score 20-15 and, following the free kick to Kansas City, Palko was picked off by CB Brandon Anderson to end the game.

Tampa Bay 30, Kansas City 27 (11/2/08)
KANSAS CITY – Trailing 24-3 late in the first half, Tampa Bay rallied to win in Kansas City 30-27, marking the greatest comeback victory in franchise history. With the win, Head Coach Jon Gruden became the all-time winningest coach in team history, recording his 57th career win as Buccaneers head coach. Kansas City came out fast, scoring touchdowns on its first three possessions. The Chiefs went up 7-0 on the game’s opening drive as QB Tyler Thigpen found WR Dwayne Bowe for a seven-yard TD pass. On the Buccaneers first play from scrimmage, RB Earnest Graham fumbled and the Chiefs recovered on the Tampa Bay 41-yard line. Seven plays later, RB Kolby Smith scored the first rushing touchdown against the Buccaneers all season, plunging in the end zone from one yard out to put the Chiefs up 14-0. The Buccaneers got on the board on the ensuing possession as K Matt Bryant
connected on a 25-yard FG. The Chiefs responded on their next drive thanks to a trick play. Taking a direct snap, RB Jamaal Charles flipped the ball to WR Mark Bradley on an apparent reverse, but Bradley threw the ball 37 yards to Thigpen for a touchdown and a 21-3 lead. Tampa Bay drove into Chiefs territory on the next possession, but QB Jeff Garcia was intercepted, ending the scoring threat. Kansas City added a field goal right before the two- minute warning to push its lead to 24-3, but on the ensuing kickoff, RB Clifton Smith raced 97 yards for a Buccaneers touchdown. It marked just the second kickoff return for a touchdown in team history. After forcing a Chiefs punt on the next drive, Tampa Bay trimmed the lead to 24-13 as the first half ended on a Bryant 43-yard FG. Following a scoreless third quarter, Tampa Bay drove deep inside Chiefs territory, but Clifton Smith fumbled following a short reception and Kansas City recovered at its own three-yard line. However, on the next play, S Tanard Jackson forced a Chiefs fumble that he also recovered, regaining possession for Tampa Bay at the three-yard line. The Buccaneers tried a gadget play of their own on the next play as Graham took the handoff and tossed a pass to TE Alex Smith in the back of the end zone to make the score 24-19 following a failed two-point conversion attempt. The Chiefs pushed their lead to 27-19 with 7:38 remaining in the game on a 28-yard FG on the ensuing drive. Tampa Bay drove inside the Chiefs 10-yard line on its next drive, but again turned the ball over on a Graham fumble. The Buccaneers defense held on the ensuing possession and Tampa Bay took over at midfield following a Chiefs punt with 1:50 left in the game. Five plays later, Garcia hit WR Antonio Bryant for a 24-yard TD and then found Alex Smith for the two-point conversion to tie the game. Set up by a 29- yard catch and run by WR Michael Clayton on the first play of overtime, Matt Bryant drilled a 34-yard FG to cap the largest comeback victory in Buccaneers history.
