As the preseason continues to roll along, so do the Buccaneers. Week 2 against the Patriots didn’t go as planned as the Bucs were outplayed and outclassed by New England. That’s not a crazy overreaction just reality in my opinion but luckily the games don’t count yet so anytime this young team can get on the field together and get meaningful reps against one of the best organizations in football and it not count well that’s a good night in my book. Week 3 of the preseason will be upon us soon and the Miami Dolphins will be rolling into Ray Jay and this youngry Bucs team will get another shot at getting better. This game though will most likely be the last real dress rehearsal the Bucs have before Megatron and company come to play for real.
The third preseason game is usually where starters play the most minutes and teams finally start to game plan for specific teams and schemes. While it’s not nearly as in depth studying as what goes on during the season it’s about as close as it gets. Most to all starters will play until halftime maybe into the third quarter. Bucs fans will most likely finally see Freeman with all his toys to play with. Rejus Benn will finally suit up as will Kellen Winslow from what the team says. So for the first and maybe final time before kickoff Sunday September 11th the whole first team offense will take reps against another opponent besides their own defense. It also appears that Brian Price will finally suit up and get some reps in the preseason which is music to Bucs fans ears. Both sides of the football will get another shot at redeeming themselves.

This week there will be more game planning so that excuse or non excuse depending on how u look at it will not apply. The offense needs to come out and establish a bit of a rhythm move the ball and convert in the red zone. The offensive line and Freeman need to work together with the line calls so sacks like last week don’t happen. As Raheem said this week the wide receivers need to win their man to man battles and get open for Freeman. Blount and the running backs need to continue to work on their third down plays, protection for Freeman, and moving the chains. Defensively, the Bucs need to keep working on getting after the QB. McCoy needs to continue to cause disruption but have more than 1 tackle to show for it. Rookie Mason Foster needs to continue his learning curve and adapting to the NFL style of football. The secondary will be fun to watch as more playing time looks to be available if Talib is in fact suspended. Watch rookie corner Anthony Gaitor as he has had a nice camp and continues to make plays when he is inserted into games. I have a feeling Bucs fans will be seeing a good amount of Gaitor this coming year and that’s no knock on Mack who has had a good couple of games lately.
Two weekends from now we will be live and playing meaningful football. This game Saturday is isn’t a deal breaker and won’t determine much of anything this year. It will help decide who makes the Bucs roster this year though. It will help establish a swagger on this youngry Bucs team that could definitely translate into the regular season. Or it could go like last week and allow doubt to creep into a young teams mind with a lot of expectations going into the season. Either way Saturday is the last real dress rehearsal for this team.
