A little bit of historical information for you; as the Bucs are about to depart to take on Minnesota at the Hubert H. Humphry Metrodome, a place very familiar to long time football fans as the home of the Vikings. But thats not always been so.
For 21 years prior to opening the H.H.H. Metrodome, the Vikings won 12 division championship in a frigid outdoor stadium where they had a serious home field advantage because of the weather. Minnesota advanced to 4 Super Bowls back then, but have not been able to go back since their move indoors. Lots of teams advance to a Superbowl now days from a dome, so maybe their time is due.
So when did this big move happen? Opening day of the 1982 season, the Vikings opened up their new shiny dome…to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! Thats right, the Bucs are the first ever team to play Minnesota in the dome. They lost that game 17-10 and the next week they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Washington Redskins, before the league went out on strike that lasted over a month, and removed 8 weeks of football! 1982, what a year!
