Will Barton’s season statistics of 4 PPG and 2 APG may not excite the masses, however he did show that he is capable of much more. In the final weeks of the season, Barton put on an unprecedented display for Portland. Over the last 2 weeks, the 6’5″ guard from Memphis put up 17 PPG to go along with 7.2 rebounds per contest. This was certainly a lone bright spot for Blazers fans as the team (more than likely) intentionally lost 12 in a row. You can’t really blame them though, because they were eliminated from playoff contention.
One of the most remarkable things of the hot streak Barton had is how efficiently he performed. He shot well over 50% and shot over 35% from 3. The best part of the streak was his 22 point, 13 rebound game against the Mavericks. At 22 years old, Barton looks to have a very productive career in the league ahead of him, and he may have earned himself some more reps during the off-season. With the shooting guard position being one of the weakest for the Blazers, he could carve out productive minutes. Once again, this was only a short span, but you never know what he can accomplish in the future. Mr. Barton, you have gotten our attention, and we will be watching.
