Game 2 vs. Oklahoma City Thunder: L, 79-78
Game 3 vs. Miami Heat: L, 94-80
After a strong start to the 2013 Summer League, Orlando has hit a bit of a rough patch over the past few days with two losses. They blew a 9 point lead headed into the fourth quarter in the loss to OKC then proceeded to get blown out by Miami.
The Positives
- Victor Oladipo: Oladipo had a bad game against OKC, only making 2-12 attempts from the floor and missing all 3 attempts from behind the arch, but he followed that up with his best game yet. Against Miami he scored 22 points on only 7 shots, he made both three attempts and attempted 14 shots from the charity stripe, converting on 12 of them. He had 5 assists against OKC and only 2 against Miami; however that could be because he was the only consistent offensive threat for Orlando in this game. There are still aspects of his game he needs to improve on, but he’s still been very much a bright spot for Orlando in the Summer League.
- Free Throws: Orlando is getting to the line and they are converting. Against OKC they attempted 39 free throws and made 30 of them, good for 76.9%. This was a huge advantage compared to the 9-13 OKC shot. Against Miami they shot 24, and made 20 (83.3%) of them.
The Negatives
- Rebounding: Orlando has gotten outrebounded in each of their last two contests. OKC outrebounded the Magic 35-31 then Miami proceeded to dominate them on the glass by a margin of 36-26.
- Turnovers: this was also a negative I wrote about in my first post. Orlando really improved on their turnovers against OKC, as they only gave the ball away on 8 occasions. But against Miami it went back up again, as they turned it over 21 times. This has to improve; a lot of this has to do with them playing Victor Oladipo out of position.
- Offensive Consistency: Oladipo has been the only player on Orlando’s roster who has scored double digits in all three games. Everyone else has been ridiculously inconsistent on the offensive end. For example, Andrew Nicholson scored 19 against OKC but only 3 against Miami. Doron Lamb scored 16 against OKC but only 5 against Miami. Players need to get more consistent.
- Assists: the opposition has also had more assists than Orlando in each of the last two games. Against OKC they only had 13 assists compared to the 18 the Thunder had. Against Miami they had 16 while the Heat finished with 19.
- Three Point Shooting: Orlando also needs to get more consistent here. They were atrocious from behind the arch against the Thunder (2-11, 18.2%) but did improve against Miami (6-15, 40%).
