You always want to win, but its so much better when your the better team too. Tampa Bay Buccaneers excorcized several demons with the win over Atlanta, and they did it with poise.
The Bucs wore out Atlanta’s Time Outs with the Bucs 4 minute offense, that ended up with a 4th and inches just in Atlanta territory. The Bucs lined up, ran in motion, and pulled Atlanta defensive lineman offsides.
First Down Tampa Bay, game over!
In doing so the Bucs..
- Sacked the Quarterback 4 times, 2 of which came from Defensive Lineman Adrian Clayborn (his first sack) and Brian Price. Dekoda Watson and Mason Foster got the other two.
- Held a team’s running game in check. Atlanta rushed the ball for 30 yards rushing, only 20 yards from Turner.
- Made Matty Ice fumble. Twice Matt Ryan coughed up the football.
- Won the game WITHOUT Josh Freeman’s heroics. Freeman tossed up two interceptions and had a lethargic 56.8 QB rating.
But the TEAM won, and they Ran LeGarrette Blount, 24 carries to be exact for 81 yards, only a 3.4 avg, but his key runs at the right time allowed the Bucs to keep a two score lead most of the second half.
The game was in doubt because Atlanta, pardon the pun, caught on fire, scoring 10 points easy, and it looked like they would have scored more, but the Bucs took over the ball with 4:00 to go, and Atlanta never saw the football again.
