This may be Cleveland’s last chance to show LeBron the Love.
On the eve of the 2014 NBA Draft I wrote about why the Cavs Should Do Anything For Love in hopes of compelling their former King to reclaim the throne in Cleveland. Jump to today and James appears to have narrowed his list of suitors down to Miami and Cleveland.
While Chris Sheridan tweeted that per a “plugged-in source” there’s a 90 percent chance LeBron returns to Cleveland, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated believes LBJ is more likely to re-sign with the Heat on a shorter three-year deal as he’s more likely to win another championship in the next few years alongside Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade than Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins.
When LeBron goes to meet Pat Riley in precious few hours, Miami has all the momentum on its side. Danny Granger is well past his prime and Josh McRoberts although solid, does not help solve the rim-protection problems that were glaringly evident during the Heat’s Finals meetings with the Spurs. However, Riley, a master negotiator, can accurately claim that he and James have worked together successfully to bring two championships to Miami in the last four years. That said, no action Riley can take would be as significant as the Cavs trading Wiggins’ draft rights for Love. No other team can put together a package more enticing to the Wolves than one featuring Wiggins, a fact the Star Tribune’s Jerry Zgoda (Timberwolves reporter) believes Minnesota management is well aware of.
Imagine LeBron getting a text from his agent that Cleveland has traded Wiggins for Love. What would James do? I’ll tell you what he’d do. He’d thank Riley for his time, tell him he has some unfinished business to take care of, shake his hand, and head on home.
