Timberwolves Win 2015 Draft Lottery

Draft Lottery night is always a underrated night in the NBA calender, it really can completely shift the distribution of power in the league. For example, if the Cavaliers didn’t win the lottery last year, they don’t have Andrew Wiggins to trade for Kevin Love. Are the Cavaliers then in the NBA finals? Would Love have been traded elsewhere? The 2015 Draft lottery night didn’t disappoint as the Wolves landed the 1st pick in the draft and the Knicks slipped from 3rd to 4th.

Main Headlines From The Draft Lottery

The Knicks drop to 4th

The Knicks came into the night with a 19.9% chance of having the top selection in the NBA draft. Unfortunately for them, they were bumped out of the top three by the LA Lakers who jumped up to 2nd.

Lakers move up to 2nd

The Lakers moved up from fourth to second in the lottery thanks to the luck of Byron Scott’s sly wink. Look for the Lakers to take Okafor as it seems likely the Timberwolves will select Towns with the number one pick.

Wolves land the number one pick

The Minnesota Timberwolves talented young core just got a major boost. Despite having the last two number one picks in Wiggins and Bennett, this will be the first ever number one the Timberwolves have owned.

The Philadelphia 76ers get just one first round pick

There was a chance, even if it was small, that the 76ers would get three lottery picks, which would have been a first in NBA history. Instead, they earned the 3rd pick, which honestly may end up suiting them. With Towns and Okafor projected to go one and two, the Sixers will have their pick at Mundiay, Russell, and Winslow.

Final order of the 2015 Draft Lottery:

1) Minnesota Timberwolves

2)LA Lakers

3) Philadelphia 76ers

4) New York Knicks

5) Orlando Magic

6) Sacramento Kings

7) Denver Nuggets

8) Detroit Pistons

9) Charlotte Hornets

10) Miami Heat

11) Indiana Pacers

12) Utah Jazz

13) Phoenix Suns

14) Oklahoma City Thunder

Overall, it was a pretty uneventful draft lottery with the team with the best odds of winning the number one pick winning for the first time since 2004. So Minnesota fans, was all the losing this year worth getting the number one pick? I think so.
