Phoenix Suns select Dragan Bender

Doc Rivers

With Dragan Bender heading to the desert, how does he fit in Phoenix?

The Player: Dragan Bender seems to be a perfect stretch-4. He is tall and long, able to rebound and provide rim protection. He can switch out on the perimeter when necessary, and he has quick hands. On offense he can shoot from all around the court, and even showed some passing skill for Macabbi Tel Aviv. While he has some growth until he can produce at an NBA level, all of the tools are there.

The Fit: Phoenix has a fully-stocked guard rotation, including last year’s first round pick Devin Booker. They also have two traditional centers in Tyson Chandler and Alex Len. What they don’t have are forwards, and Bender fits that need. He can hit shots from outside and has the athleticism to run the floor in the up-tempo offense this team will want to run.

The Spot: Starting power forward by end of the season
Grade: A+
