Thon Maker is moving the shortest distance of his life, from Toronto down to Milwaukee. How does he fit with the Bucks?
The Player: Thon Maker is the ultimate wild card in this year’s draft. Reclassifying out of the 2017 class, Maker received permission to declare early for the NBA Draft. He played his high school basketball in Canada after escaping the Sudan via Australia as a youth, and the amount of tape and notes on him is limited. He is tall and athletic, and has a tantalizing skillset if he can develop. A team picking Maker is swinging for the fences, but he won’t be ready for a few years.
The Fit: Milwaukee needs someone to protect the rim, as Greg Monroe and Jabari Parker offer little on the defensive end. Maker could be that player someday, but he isn’t there yet. The core in Milwaukee is young, so waiting for Maker to develop isn’t a major issue. But for a team with hopes to return to the playoffs, Maker will not contribute to that goal this season. Still he has the upside to be the starting center of this team as a perfect fit alongside Jabari Parker.
The Spot: Reserve big man
