Da’ Bears.
If you know anyone from Chicago, you know the accent, its just how they say it!
The Bucs have played the Bears alot, because they used to belong in the same division, they played twice a week from 1978-2001. The very last NFC Central game the Bucs played was against the Chicago Bears in 2001, and the Bucs stunk it up. Gary Shelton wrote a great article about how the NFC Central could have blinked and never seen us! Thats because of the Bears!
Think about it..what were the power years of Bears football? 83-91? The Bucs beat Chicago only twice in that whole stretch; both times in 1989.
I remember that years set of games- it was the first time the Bucs beat the Bears in 12 games, and Tampa Bay was on fire and held off a Jim Harbaugh led comeback attempt 42-35. Then IN Chicago later in the year, the Bucs and Bears had a shootout in the 4th QTR, and beat Chicago IN Chicago for the first time since 1979! Big deal, they wouldnt win there again until 1998!
Two road wins in 20 years. George Costanza once said- “If you put my life together into a few weeks..its not so bad”!!
Not that the Bucs didn’t have a little bit of dominance; During the Bucs prime Orange years from 79-82, the Bucs were 3-4 against the future Monsters of Midway. Then when Pewter Power was born, The Bears were horrible, so the Bucs had a little advantage then. From 1996-2000 Tampa Bay beat the Bears at home each time, and two years in a row on the road (98, 99). In fact, the Bucs kept the Bears offense from scoring a TD in 3 complete games!
Recent history, the Bucs have been the come kids against Chicago- Flying back from 2+ scores down twice in 2006 only to lose, then came back from two scores down in 2008 to tie the game and then win it in OT. Both of the last two games were IN Chiacgo, and both went into Overtime. Total Points scored by the Bucs vs Bears in the last two games; Bucs 58 Bears 58!
Overall though, thats like Domination! Lifetime, Chicago has won 35 times to the Bucs 18. One out of every three times, the Bucs win.
Guess this ones on us mates!!
