Don’t Blame Josh Freeman for this loss

You can blame the play calling, you can blame the LeGarrette Blount Oregon Hawaiian Punch, but you cannot blame Josh Freeman. As expected, Josh Freeman is starting his late season push into becoming great, something he has done each year now at this time.

You could see it in his face…he was fired up. He challenged defensive lineman, and he didnt back down. He argued his points with officials, he is a true leader if I’ve ever seen one at the Quarterback position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lets check out Freeman’s TD pass..

Josh Freeman didn’t complain to be taken out at the key moment in the end of the first half for J.J., instead he led his team the way he knows how, on his arm. All reports of an injured thumb were grossly exagerated. Freeman came close to another 300 yard game, and thats with 80% and more of his passes of the dink and dunk variety. Freeman left the game with a 103.5 passer rating, and if not for a weak defense that could not come up with a stop when it needed to, may have led the team on yet another 4th quarter comeback.

Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com had this to say about Josh Freeman: The Bucs, now 4-4, have to be worried about Josh Freeman. … The Bucs receivers can’t separate and Freeman’s decision making and accuracy was spotty. …  Really? 27 of 37 for 281 yards and a TD, no INTs, that’s spotty?

Well I suppose compared to his counterpart Sunday Drew Brees, who was 27 of 36 for 258 2TD but a Pick, it was. Freeman threw to 10 different receivers, which means he is not locking in on any one person. In fact, Mike Williams led the Bucs with 6 catches, which was nice to see that old combo coming back again. Also, K2 Kellen Winslow had 4 catches for 29 yards and a TD, his second in two games.

So I’m not buying Josh Freeman as the problem. But when the play is 3rd and 10 and the designed route is 4 yards, that’s the problem.
