What do we do with defense that has no defense?!?

The 2011 Tampa Bay Buccaneers is the answer.

The Question was ‘what was the worst ever defensive team in the state of Florida?’

Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars never had a defensive team worse than the Bucs 1986 team, and our 2011 Bucs were far worse, giving up way more points. It’s more than just the points though, the Bucs never gave up in ’86 like they did this year, they never got blown out by so many teams, BAD teams, in a row! Lets take a look:

The ’86 team had some bad games…Week 14 at Chicago (one year after the super bowl) the Bucs lost 14-48, but one TD was a blooper! The Bears picked off the Bucs QB Steve Young, and the Bears were having fun lateraling the ball around when Bucs WR Vince Heflin stepped in the middle and got the ball and ran it in for a TD. They lost 13-45 at Minnesota, and 17-38 here against Detroit. In week 7, the Bucs lost to a very good Saints team 7-38. All of those teams the Bucs lost to were good teams; The Vikings were 9-7, Chicago was 14-2. The 2011 Bucs got blown out by a 5 win Jacksonville team, and twice by Carolina to boot.

So this Bucs team is attrocious on defense, and something has to be done, but what?
Do you hire a defensive minded coach to bring in his defensive system? Or is it better to bring in a good overall coach and have him pick his choice of Defensive coordinators to match  his defensive system if he has one. Either way, a lot of Bucs defensive players are going to be gone or changed drastically.

DEFENSIVE BACKS- A lot is up for grabs with the starting corners unsure of where they will be in 2012. Ronde Barber may retire, and Aqib Talib may be in jail. The Backups are not good enough at this time to start, EJ Biggers, Myron Lewis and Elbert Mack, the latter of which played better than the others.

LINEBACKERS- Rookie Middle linebacker Mason Foster played without a leader to teach him, and was asked to do more than anyone should have. WIth a good coaching staff, Foster will either settle into an outside role or continue to develop at inside.
Geno Hayes and QUincy Black are going to have to be evaluated by the new staff. Right now, the Bucs have ZERO linebackers of NFL quality.

DEFENSIVE LINE- The Bucs have 4 top premium picks invested on all four spots, No. 91, 92, 93, and 94. 2012 needs to be the year all four start together. The coaching staff will need to work with these guys, but Clayborn (94) showed alot this year.

Either way, new coaches have their work cut out for them.

What would you do with the defense? and remember, you cant fire them all!
