Word is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not sufficiently bored to death with interviewing Mike Sherman, so they will interview Wade Philips.
Never mind that Philips is a 3-4 guy, and the Bucs have ZERO linebackers to play the 3-4 with, much less a 4-3! But Wade Philips?
It’s clear the Glazers want to get rid of the “Big Brother” coaching approach and try a “Father Figure”. But Wade Philips?
Isn’t that Grandfather?
Was Bum unavailable?
Look I get it, the Glazers said they would be exhaustive in their search, but so far the candidates scream “Retreads encouraged to apply”. I’m not counting Grey, the Rooney Rule invite.
Wade Philips is a good head coach, he was one of the only successful coaches at Bufalo in recent history, and if not for a music city physics test in Quantum Dissipation (otherwise known as the Music City Miracle), may have proceeded deeper into the Playoffs or at the very least would have gotten a win.
I like a guy who sniffs after cutting a man. You could tell the Cowboys played for him too. Coaching for Dallas comes with its own caveats, mostly Jerry Jones. But Phillips is a 3-4 man, can he just ‘coach’ and hire a Defensive coordinator to run the 4-3.
Don’t get me wrong, if someone thinks exploding the Bucs defense is the best course of action, Id listen to the idea, but we dont have ANY, not one person, to play a 3-4. Maybe one, McCargo wcould probably do the nosetackle. Ok I’ll stop now.
Maybe this week the Bucs will interview someone young and promising, because so far the Bucs fan base has been apathetic to say the least… and the Philips interview is not until Friday.
