Look around the ‘net, and you see comments everywhere about how the Bucs are cheap. Well its not just commentors, now the word is at the Senior Bowl, CONNECTED NFL PEOPLE are saying the same thing. Reason? Bucs dont pay their assistants worth a damn.
Originally reported by Pewter Report, they heard Chip Kelly backed down from the Bucs job because a bunch of people with NFL connections called him to warn him about the Glazers.
Several coaches had decided NOT to interview for the Bucs opening because the Glazers do not have a history under Mark Dominik of good contracts with assistant coaches. That the team signs its assistant coaches to simple 2 year deals, with the 2nd year being an option anyways. What that does is basically put the Bucs in complete control over whether the assitant gets to return or not. Now granted we’ve had some poor assistants, but so what, you have to deal with that.
This wasnt the case when Bruce Allen was GM or Rich McKay, but under Dominik the Bucs have become VERY frugal, and its doubtful that Mark Dominik is the one responsible.
Glazers; you need to open up your pockets a bit, the recent history is starting to warn people against coming to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of money, and that shouldnt be. Lets give the Glazers an opportunity to right this with this current bumper crop of Assistants, and again in Free Agency, but they DO NEED TO SPEND, because the rumours are here, and they will be here to stay until something is done about it.
Then when March comes around, go get some big time free agents, and there will be no place for “Cheap” talk in Tampa Bay.
