Greg Danchik’s Fantasy Corner 10-17

Greg Danchik's Fantasy Corner 10-17To recap last week’s article, I would challenge you to find ANYONE who had the Bills throwing the ball more than 30 times. I would have expected Doug Marrone to ride his running backs, which was the reasoning behind my bold prediction. I would say Tom Brady did not play up to his top 6 fantasy quarterback standards. He was going to be held without a touchdown again until the last 5 seconds. His 16 rushing yards help, but less than 300 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception is a poor performance. Terrance Williams got another TD this week. That gave him a 8 point week in non-PPR and a 10 point week in PPR. He was most likely a waiver wire pick and your bye-week fill in. You have to be happy with that production. I wouldn’t expect it to slow down until Miles Austin is 100%, and I doubt that will happen anytime soon. On to this week’s studs, duds and predictions!

Surprising Stud- DeAngelo Williams, Panthers RB

This is mostly a matchup play. The Rams are horrendous against the run. Even in their domination over the Rams, Arian Foster and Ben Tate had a field day against them. I would expect the same from Cam Newton and DeAngelo Williams. I can’t put Cam here because you should be starting him every week no matter who the defense is. Williams, on the other hand, is more of a flex play week to week.  This week, he is a must start in my opinion. The Rams give up roughly 130 yard per game on the ground and that is at a clip of 4.6 yards per carry. If DeAngelo Williams cannot perform against this defense, I would argue he is almost not rosterable. I would be looking for 80-100 yards, a couple catches and a score.

Disappointing Dud- Jordy Nelson, Packers WR

I realize that he will probably be the go-to receiver for Aaron Rodgers as the Packers take on the Browns, but there are no other options to take coverage away from him. With Randell Cobb out and James Jones questionable, the Browns are going to be able to stick Joe Haden on Nelson constantly, but they will also be able to double team him a lot. Even if it was just Joe Haden matched up against Nelson, I would be worried as a fantasy owner. Mike Wallace (1 catch on 5 targets, 15 yards), AJ Green (7 catches on 15 targets, 51 yards), and Megatron (3 catches on 8 targets, 15 yards) have struggled against Haden. I doubt Jordy Nelson has a different fate. If you have no other options, I would pray that the Nelson is able to break away for one big play to make himself valuable. Otherwise, you’re going to be looking at a single-digit day in non-PPR leagues.

Bold Predictions

For the Buccaneers’ fans, I truly believe that the Bucs can go into Atlanta this weekend and beat the Falcons. I think Doug Martin finally has a big game and Glennon keeps tossing TDs to V-Jax. It will be close, but I think the Bucs finally avoid a late game implosion and win. The other bold prediction is for myself… Ravens BLOWOUT the Steelers in Pittsburgh. This rarely happens, but I think it happens this time around. Torrey Smith will make up for last week’s poor performance and have himself a day.
