Tampa Bay was in trouble.

No I don’t mean from being moved out of town to Baltimore or Cleveland, that was a few years before. It was 1998, and the Miracle 97 Bucs were in the rear view mirror, having won a playoff game but lost on the road to the Packers, Bucs fans smelled blood.

National Magazines portrayed us as possible SuperBowl contestants. The Bucs made the move from the Old Sombrero to Ray Jay, but there was one problem: Ray Jay wasn’t ready yet! The Bucs had to play 5, not 4, 5 preseason games plus the first two games of the regular season on the rode. All told thats 7 games, half a season, on the road. Needless to say, the Bucs were homesick.

Running into rookie Randy Moss on the road  opening day didn’t help, the Bucs finally came home week 3 already 0-2, and were down to the Bears 15-0. 0-3 was just an hour or so away, it was the 3rd quarter, and the Glazers crown jewel was still on display for the country on FOX TV.

Someone told Dave Moore people were watching. He caught a ball like he never had, or did, again. One handed, Dave Moore may have saved a season and respectability for the Bucs, Raymond James, and the Glazer Family.
