It’s spreading a lot faster than MRSA did for Greg Schiano’s Bucs in 2013. Its spreading even faster than that stench that was Schiano’s Bucs in ’13 too! The infection is the character of new Bucs QB Jameis Winston, who arrived at rookie camp earlier than anyone else, and guided Bucs rookies into camp One by One with a personal greeting.
Thats how it was for Winston at Florida State, when as a true freshman after screwing up a practice, Winston sprinted to the exit and promised all his teammates that he would not let them down and perform at that low level ever again.
Winston’s camp roomate Kenny Bell attests to how Jameis just has a personality that everyone wants to be around.
The actual drills were 50/50 based on whose report you read. Pewter Report’s Scott Reynolds says the QB was erratic on half of his passes but of course he had all new and not so talented WRs out there running routs and catching passes. Tampa Bay Times Rick Stroud gave him a little more credit.
Overall though, the Bucs got their money’s worth out of Jameis, he is a leader in the huddle already, and for a team that’s been leaderless on offense for years, thats a good sign. This is exactly what the Bucs needed.
For too long Tampa Bay has been led by vociferous leaders on defense: Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, Hardy Nickerson, Lee Roy Selmon, but on offense, nothin exept maybe Fullback Mike Alstott who was a leader by example. Now, Jameis Winston brings that unparalled character to the team and it will rub off on everyone.
