Saints Nation: Saints Turn Focus to 49ers

reggie 9ers If you had a chance to watch the 49ers on Sunday, it was a sad display indeed. One thing that was pretty evident in that game is that they are no further along in their search for a starting quarterback. If you missed it, the Seattle Seahawks drubbed the 49ers 31-6 thanks in large part to a horrendous performance by the 49ers offensively. I have to imagine they’re going to come out at home on Monday night desperate for a win. The reality is this: the 49ers are way more desperate for this win than the Saints are at this point in the season. The Saints will have to be careful, because this trip out to the west coast could be tougher than it looks on paper. The 49ers are much better defensively than they played against the Seahawks, and they have a much better ground game as well. If there’s any area the Saints can be vulnerable in, it’s against the run. Frank Gore will be looking to bounce back from his woeful 38 yards on 17 carries. We all know what Frank Gore is capable of when playing well, and we have to assume he’ll bring his A game. The good news is that Alex Smith looks as terrible as ever. The Saints should be able to leave their corners on an island, and attack the 49ers in obvious passing situations to create turnovers. Still, the season is young, and the 49ers are 0-1, playing at home on the national stage on the heels of a very embarassing loss. The opportunity to redeem themselves against the world champions in front of the entire country is something they’ll want to jump all over. This is a dangerous matchup for the Saints because the 49ers are easy to overlook at this point in the season. Saints beware!
