Lots of news on the Saints front in the past 24 hours. Here they are:
1. Adrian Arrington has been released to make room for John Carney. This one is a real bummer to me. Arrington was looking awesome in the preseason, and I still think he’s got the potential to be a very good receiver in the league. The only problem is he’s stuck behind 5 very good receivers (including Courtney Roby) and he’s not really helping the team right now. Hopefully the can hold onto him on the practice squad, but if I were another team with shaky depth at receiver, I’d make a waiver claim on him immediately… because the guy is an awesome receiver and I believe he’d be ready to contribute immediately for the right team.
2. Speaking of John Carney, he will be the starting kicker for the Saints Sunday against Carolina, according to ESPN. That means Garrett Hartley will most likely be inactive for the game. I don’t like this decision. I’d rather Hartley try to kick his way out of this slump. Evidently Sean Payton believes he needs a mental break.
3. Courtney Roby (pictured) has been elected as the NFC special teams player of the month. I guess i’m not the only one that’s been singing the guy’s praise all month. Now you know why I’ve had a huge man crush on Roby all month. I’m sure you do to. His performance has been lights all for the entirety of 3 games. He has a very solid 25.8 yard kickoff return average, leads the Saints with 5 special teams tackles (in 3 games!!!!!) and also recovered a crucial fumble. The Saints would be 1-2 without Courtney Roby, and potentially worse. I firmly believe that. Nice to see him getting recognition on the national level. If he keeps this up he’s headed to his first Pro Bowl.
