Saints Nation: Brees’ Boy is Bowen

Saints Nation: Brees' Boy is Bowen First there was Baylen (pictured) and now there’s Bowen. Congratulations to the Brees family for welcoming their new son into the world, Bowen Christopher Brees. Something tells me those two boys may very well be pretty good athletes some day. Speaking from experience, nothing is cooler than having a baby boy. Nothing.

Other news:

— Linebacker Clint Ingram, who had been on the PUP list, has been released. With the Saints fairly deep at linebacker, and with all the young guys performing well, I guess they decided they didn’t need the veteran. Either that, or Ingram didn’t look ready to come back healthy. He had been battling back from an injury all offseason and training camp. With the emergence of Danny Clark, and the fairly steady play of Shanle and Jo-Lonn Dunbar, the Saints don’t really need Ingram. Backups Marvin Mitchell, Arnoux and Waters have all been valuable on special teams, a place Ingram likely wouldn’t help the team, so it makes sense he was let go. Darren Sharper, on the other hand, could be activated this week if he’s healthy enough to go. The Saints are majorly depleted in the defensive backfield right now, so they need him.

— Randall Gay has been placed on injured reserve. I’m not sure what happened here, but evidently his head injury was pretty serious. Sad to hear. Cornerback Quincy Butler has been signed to take his place. Butler is a 4 year man out of TCU that’s had stints with the Cowboys and Rams. He had 7 starts last year for the Rams but didn’t play very well. Maybe he can help on special teams, or maybe he’ll be released to make room for Sharper.

— Scott Shanle, Jabari Greer, Reggie Bush, Tracy Porter and Pierre Thomas have not practiced yet this week, so they are still banged up. Darren Sharper practiced and I bet he plays.

— Garrett Hartley’s job appears safe for now. No news of the Saints bringing in new kickers, and he’s obviously still on the team. He better start making kicks.
