Saints Nation: Happy Trails DeMario Pressley

Saints Nation: Happy Trails DeMario PressleyMost of you have maybe caught wind of this by now, but promising Saints’ young defensive tackle DeMario Pressley is no longer a member of the team. The Houston Texans signed Pressley off the Saints’ practice squad to became a member of their 53 man active roster. This represents an opportunity for Pressley to hopefully play, show what he can do, and make his mark in the NFL.

I’ve always been a big fan of Pressley. In limited action for the Saints last year, I thought he showed a lot of promise and ability. The 5th round draft pick in 2008 out of NC State spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve. Last year, he started the season on the practice squad before getting the call up to the active roster due to injuries to players ahead of him. He ended the season with 15 tackles and was a member of the Super Bowl Champion roster, but was unable to crack the 53 man roster again at the beginning of this season which sent him back to the practice squad. He’s now a member of the Houston Texans and will get a chance to play.

I want to wish DeMario the best of luck. He was an outspoken and well liked member of the defensive line, both in the locker room and in the community. Pressley’s message to Saints fans from his twitter account was the following: “Thanks to everyone and the whodatnation for your congratulatory tweets… Time for a new start. I have to make it a good one…!” He also acknowledged that the move was bittersweet. Still, you can’t fault a player for jumping on an opportunity to get some playing time.

We’ll miss you #90! Good luck!
