Saints’ linebacker Jonathan Vilma is now the 4th Saint elected to the Pro Bowl (along with Drew Brees, Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks), as 49ers’ star linebacker Patrick Willis has pulled out of the game with a broken hand. This marks the third time Vilma has been selected and the second consecutive season. Vilma is now the lone representative of the Saints’ defense in the Pro Bowl despite the fact that they rank 4th overall as a unit in the entire league. I still think Roman Harper deserved it more than anyone. Regardless, it’s nice recognition for a player that’s been the driving force behind the team’s success for the last three seasons. Like last year, members of the Super Bowl qualifying teams will not be eligible to play in the Pro Bowl. So while the award is nice, let us hope Vilma never gets a chance to play in the game.
