Saints Nation: StarCaps Case Resurfaces, Will Smith’s Suspension is Back On

Saints Nation: StarCaps Case Resurfaces, Will Smith's Suspension is Back On Will Smith will apparently be suspended for 4 games to begin the 2011 season for his involvement in the StarCaps case. Does this story sound familiar? To quote Yogi Berra: “It’s like deja-vu all over again”. The case, which has been in court and appealed a countless number of times, has finally ruled in favor of the league. It would be naive to assume this is the end of it, though. I fully expect that we’ll have some turn in events yet again. That seems to be the standard every offseason. The good news is that Will Smith is the only remaining Saint still implicated, as guy like Deuce McAllister and Charles Grant have since left the league. As things currently stand, though, Will Smith will be suspended for taking “water pills” for the first 4 games of next season.

A little history if you dare:

First Will Smith was supposed to be suspended for the first four games in 2010, then the appeal process pushed things back to 2011.

The year before that, Charles Grant and Will Smith were supposed to serve a suspension to start the season. That obviously never panned out, as they played the entire season.

This ridiculous saga just won’t end. I’ve said all along that I’d prefer he just serve the suspension and get it over with, but perhaps he’ll be able to keep pushing the ruling back past his playing days like other former players have done. Either way, this isn’t good news going into the 2011 season, should we have one. The Saints’ passing rushing abilities were very suspect with Will Smith. Imagine how bad they would be without him.
