Saints Nation’s 10 Best Saints Players of All Time: #10 Eric Martin

Saints Nation's 10 Best Saints Players of All Time: #10 Eric Martin I’ll be spending some time over the next couple of weeks recognizing the 10 greatest Saints of all time.

#10 on my list is the great wide receiver Eric Martin. Martin went to LSU and became an immediate fan favorite over night. While he was never particularly fast, he had the best set of hands of any receiver the Saints ever had.

Statistically, he measures favorably with the best in team history:

Martin has more receptions than any other receiver in Saints’ history with 532. He amassed 7,854 in his 9 years with the team which is also best in team history. His 48 touchdown receptions is also second in team history. He had three 1,000 yard seasons as a receiver for the Saints despite always playing on teams that adopted the run first and play defense philosophy.

Martin’s playing days are most remembered for his hands and his toughness. No one went over the middle and absorbed hits better than Eric Martin. He was old school in style and he represented the heart and soul of the Saints’ passing game for a good decade.
