I posted a while back that 7/21 was the target date for the lockout to end. Now, pending any complete reversals, it looks like football operations will finally be back up and running on 7/25, or tomorrow. ESPN has reported that the players have OK’ed the deal on all points, meaning they will vote to ratify the same deal the owners extended and the lockout will come to an end.
Now, it’s all a question of how soon teams can start signing rookie free agents, their own free agents, and when open free agency starts. Expect news to come trickling in extremely fast in the coming days. Teams won’t have time to court players, so they’ll be offering contracts left and right. It looks like we’re finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Kudos to Roger Goodell and DeMaurice Smith (pictured) for putting in the hard work necessary to make this deal happen. Can’t wait for Saints football!! We’re only 19 days away from the team’s first preseason game and 45 days away from Saints @ Packers to open the 2011 NFL campaign.
