Saints Nation: 5 Things to Watch for with Saints @ Texans Tonight

Saints Nation: 5 Things to Watch for with Saints @ Texans TonightThe second game of the preseason is against a familiar foe in the Houston Texans. It will be a good test matching up with the Texans as they have playmakers on both sides of the ball. Hope both teams stay healthy as you would hate to see a player be lost in preseason. Look for the game on NFL network, and here are my five things to watch for during the game.

1. How long will the starters play tonight?

This game is a preview as these two square off during the season in week three. So I look for both offenses to tone it down, very vanilla gameplan. Usually in the second and third preseason game is when you have your starters play the most. I think Coach Payton will play the starters until halftime then the second unit will take over.

2. Who will have the breakout game?

Last week it was the undrafted rookie Joseph Morgan who stole the show. Look for a guy trying to separate himself from the pack to have a great game. There are many guys are on the bubble so look for Montez Billings, Courtney Roby and Chris Taylor to step up their game.

3. Offensive Tackles under the microscope.

With the news of Jon Stichcomb being cut this week, the battle for the right tackle will be on display. The Texans will deploy a 3-4 defense, so look for the outside pass rush early and often. Hopefully for Brees’ sake Bushrod, Strief and Brown step up their game tonight.

4. Will Drew Brees be in sync?

It just seemed odd last week watching Drew struggle when for so long he was Mr. Perfection. Looking back you could say the receivers dropped a couple of catchable balls or the tackles couldn’t block to save their life making Drew get the ball out a little before he wanted to. Look for Drew to bounce back tonight and have a great game.

5.Will Coach Williams turn the defense loose again?

I’ve got to be honest, I’m more of an offensive guy as opposed to defense but last week opened my eyes. The defense was flying around making life miserable for the the 49ers and it seemed like they blitzed every play. The other thing I took away from last week is how much depth they have throughout the whole defense. So knowing Coach Williams personality look for him to get after the Texans offense.
