The fourth and final preseason game of the season against the Tennessee Titans is tonight. I look for many starters on both sides to be in street clothes as they prepare for the upcoming season next week. It should be a pretty boring affair but to keep your interest level up I have my short version of what to watch for in tonight’s game.
1. The Sean Canfield Show
I was going to write about how this was going to be the “Chase Daniel Show.” But after hearing the news that Sean was going to start, I had to change course…
I’m thinking Coach Payton wanted to reward Sean for the work he has put in this training camp by letting him start this game, on top of the fact that Chase Daniel is banged up. I highly doubt that Sean will be on the 53 man roster when all is said and done but to let him start tonight, maybe it would help him get on another roster down the road.
2. Spotlight on Defensive Ends Tonight
With the release of Alex Brown, it leaves a bunch of young guys to fight over a role opposite Will Smith. I haven’t been overly excited about the new guys they brought in but Coach Williams must see something in them to cut a veteran such as Brown. It is also possible that they are holding back the ends so they will be ready for the season, though I highly doubt that is the reason. If I had to put some money on who was going to start next week against the Packers I would say Cam Jordan but look for a rotation of him, McBride and Charleston so they don’t put too much on the rookie. Don’t sleep on Junior Galette, either, who was huge last preseason.
3. Last Chance for Guys on the Bubble
If ever there was a chance for the young guys to shine ,tonight is that night. Coach Payton will let a lot of the younger guys play as this might be their last chance to impress before the roster cuts. I would imagine Coach Payton and the front office would have a idea to who is on the 53 man roster already but for those guy on the bubble it gives them a chance to impress other teams as many teams look to fill their practice squad.
