I figured the Saints wouldn’t be starting the season off with just two tight ends. Sure enough, they signed TE John Gilmore yesterday. No corresponding move has been announced yet as to who he is replacing on the roster so the team currently stands at 54 active players. I would venture to guess maybe Ramon Humber, Adrian Arrington or Mitch King are most likely to be released, but we’ll have to see. Humber would probably be my first guess.
Gilmore is a blocking specialist and he was drafted in the 6th round of the 2002 by the Saints in the Jim Haslett era. He came to the Saints in the same draft as Charles Grant and Donte Stallworth. He’s been in the NFL ever since even though he didn’t make the Saints’ team in 2002. He’s played for the Bears and Bucs mostly. He’ll be used exclusively for blocking purposes in jumbo packages.
