Saints Nation: 5 Things to Watch for in Today’s Game @ Rams

Saints Nation: 5 Things to Watch for in Today's Game @ RamsThe Saints travel up to the Edward Jones Dome to face the St. Louis Rams. St. Louis have taken a step back this year as they have yet to win a game while many experts thought they could compete for a NFC West title. The thing I took away from last week’s game besides fighting boredom was the way everything the Saints would do was the right call but I guess you could also chalk it up to the Colts being a bad team, I mean who runs a no-huddle offense with a backup quarterback? I think the Saints will win this game and I give you the five things I will be watching for in today’s game.

1. Is this a trap game?

I almost feel foolish to ask the question but it is the NFL and stranger things have happened. A payback game next week is something the Saints could be looking forward to and the Rams could catch the Saints looking ahead but the mark of a good team is to win games when the emotion might not be there. The way the Saints can end this whole trap game business is to jump out and score every time they get a chance while letting Coach Williams make life hard for A.J Feeley and the Rams.

2. The Rams are winless: bad luck or just plain awful?

I have watched the Rams this season and I would say it is a little bit of both bad luck and being an awful football team. Injures to key players will hurt any team but for the Rams it has hurt because the lack of depth bwhind players that have gone down. The other thing with the Rams is the schedule this year so far has been tough and it won’t get any better today as one of the NFL’s best teams comes to town in the Saints.

3. Mark Ingram inactive, Chris Ivory active… what to expect ?

While I like the running style of Chris Ivory, I think the Saints will start Chris Ivory off slow. This is his first game experience of the season so I doubt he will come up and rush twenty five times for one hundred fifty yards. I could see if the Saints started running away with the game to just turn around and hand off to Ivory to run off time off the clock getting him ready for the upcoming games this season.

4. Can we get a repeat performance from Coach Carmichael?

Most of the chatter last week was that Coach Carmichael was the lone playcaller in last week’s win against the Colts. I am sure Coach Payton had some input as he is a hands on coach but he said it was all Coach Carmichael as far as calling the plays. It was a good job for Coach Carmichael as the offense was working on all cylinders last week. Not saying that calling plays for the Saints was easy but it has to be if you have Drew Brees and the countless playmakers.

5. Looking forward to next week?

Hopefully this game is not the boring game that we saw last Sunday night against the Colts. Like most of the country I will be watching the game most are calling the “Super Bowl” on Saturday night as LSU travels to Alabama and to take the words from Bart Scott , I “can’t wait” for that game on Saturday. By the way Geaux Tigers and I also can’t wait for the game next Sunday as Tampa Bay comes to town. The Saints need to win as they look to widen their division lead but first things first: the Saints need to get out of St. Louis before looking ahead to Tampa Bay.
