I know, I’m with you. The NFL draft just isn’t going to be as exciting this year without a 1st round pick. That is, unless the Saints trade again to get back into it. I doubt that will happen but I wouldn’t completely rule it out either. Below is the order of the 1st round, a round the Saints will currently not select in. I’ve also included the Saints’ picks below that. The first round is scheduled for Thursday, April 26th at 8pm. Friday, April 27th at night are the second and third rounds, with rounds 4-7 being on Saturday (4/28).

So the only teams without first round picks are the Saints, Falcons and Raiders. You’ll remember the Falcons gave up that 1st round pick for Julio Jones last year, the Saints gave theirs up for Mark Ingram, and the Raiders gave theirs up for Carson Palmer. The teams with 2 first rounders are the Patriots, Browns and Bengals.
The Saints’ picks are as follows:
2nd round (59th overall)
3rd round (90th overall)
4th round (122nd overall)
5th round (154th overall)
6th round (166th overall) – via Redskins for Jammal Brown
6th round (167th overall) – via Dolphins for Reggie Bush
7th round (217th overall)
If you’re wondering where the Saints’ original 1st and 6th round picks went, the 1st was sent to the Patriots to draft Mark Ingram, and the 6th was sent to the Dolphins as an exchange so the Saints could move up and draft higher in round 6 with the Dolphins’ pick.
The Saints move so much every year in the draft, especially in the Loomis/Payton era, I have no doubts that they could easily trade one of their picks this year or next. The Saints have 7 picks this year for the first time in a while. The Saints ended up with 6 picks last year, 6 the year before, and 4 the year before that… The waiting game till pick #59 is definitely going to be brutal but at least there’s a number of middle round picks to hopefully discover some gems. I’m sure the Saints will find a player they like somewhere in the middle of the draft and possibly trade to get an extra pick. We’ll see how it unfolds.
