Saints Nation: Carl Nicks Signs Mammoth Record Setting Deal With Tampa Bay Bucs

Saints Nation: Carl Nicks Signs Mammoth Record Setting Deal With Tampa Bay BucsThe writing has been on the wall for a while but make it official now, Carl Nicks has left for greener pastures. The worst part is he’s going to an NFC South division rival in the Tampa Bay Bucs. He was looking for a massive deal and he got it. 5 years, $47.5 million ($31 million guaranteed). That is the richest deal for a guard in NFL history, more than Logan Mankins and more than Jahri Evans. The Saints never really had a shot as there was just no way they could afford spending $9.5 million a year on Nicks.

Congrats to Carl on getting such a huge pay day, he certainly deserves it. The Bucs have been the winners so far in free agency spending big money on CB Eric Wright, WR Vincent Jackson, and now Nicks. We will miss you greatly, you were one of the best offensive linemen in Saints history. He was truly special and it hurts badly to lose a player of that quality.

With the loss of Nicks the Saints are now said to be making a bigger push to sign guard Ben Grubbs formerly of the Baltimore Ravens. While not Carl Nicks, he’s a very good player and he would be a more than apt replacement should the Saints get a deal done. He would certainly cost significantly less, too.
