Saints Nation: Saints Make First Free Agency Splash, Sign CB Keenan Lewis

The first new recruit of the free agency period will indeed be a defensive player as we had all hoped, in the form of a cover corner. The player is Keenan Lewis, who prepped at O.P. Walker and is from New Orleans but went to college at Oregon State, and he will be coming to the Saints on a 5 year $26.3 million contract. Lewis is regarded as one of the top corners on the market and it's been reported he wanted to play for his hometown team so badly that he turned down significantly more money to do so. Gotta love that.

As you know I always like to immediately turn to PFF to see how new players grade out.

Lewis graded 40th out of 113 corners last season, with a positive rating of 3.2. That was higher than any Saints' corner with Jabari Greer coming in highest at 60th. Lewis is adept at playing the run and pass alike and he's used to the 3-4 system. Lewis also led the entire league is passes defended, which is a significant stat and suggests he's a terrific cover guy. On the downside, he only has one interception in four years with the Steelers, but that means he'll fit right in with the Saints DB's as a guy that can't catch a cold butt naked in a driving rain storm. I kid… I kid…

Welcome to the team, Keenan, and welcome home!
