The Saints sent five players to the Pro Bowl this year, with some surprises and some no brainers. As far as snubs, you could make a case for Keenan Lewis, Thomas Morstead, Zach Strief and maybe Junior Galette, but unfortunately they missed out. Colston didn't put up the kind of numbers this year to truly merit being in the discussion. The invitees are Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham, Jahri Evans, Ben Grubbs and Cameron Jordan.
Brees and Graham were both top 10 vote getters in the entire league (Brees was #2 behind only Peyton Manning). Both were obvious choices and there was zero doubt they wouldn't go. This is Brees' seventh trip as a Saint (8th overall) and that ties him for the most ever with Willie Roaf.
This is the fifth straight invite for Jahri Evans, though his was secured more on reputation. This season wasn't a bad one for Evans by any means, I'd say he was still an above average guard, but he hasn't been 100% all year long and therefore I thought this was one of his worst seasons of his career.
Grubbs is into the Pro Bowl for the second time (first time with Ravens in 2011). He's even less deserving than Evans in my opinion, and was much more deserving last season before what I considered a drop in performance this year. As I'm sure many of you are aware this designation often comes a year late, though.
Graham took a year off last year and is now back, for his second trip. Cameron Jordan is the only first timer and he was clearly deserving as the best player on a top 10 defense. It's great to see him get the recognition because he's the most deserving on the entire team in my opinion.
Congrats to these five players!
