The Saints gave us all a nice break from the April Fools insanity by re-signing starter Parys Haralson to a one year deal. Per the team’s twitter account below, it is confirmed that the linebacker currently rehabbing from a torn pectoral muscle will be re-joining the Saints:

I like the move. Haralson was a very solid addition for the Saints last year that mainly played in run support. He had 30 tackles for the year and also contributed 3.5 sacks when blitzing. He’s a good veteran player and if he can come back healthy he will make the 53 man roster. Outside linebacker is still a need, but Haralson returning allows the Saints to develop any young talent they land via the draft as oppose to thrusting them into a starting spot unprepared. Haralson was originally acquired in a trade with the 49ers for a 7th round pick. Based on his production in one season I think the trade was worth it, but now that he’s possibly back for a second season it feels even better.
Yesterday was a busy day, too, as the Saints also hosted Champ Bailey. Keenan Lewis’ instagram photo was the first thing that tipped us off and it was later confirmed by numerous media outlets. I know you’re thinking Bailey’s age makes him a major liability, and while on some level you’re absolutely right, I would love to welcome him to the team for the very same reasons. He can compete for a starting spot and be a positive presence in the locker room. Signing him doesn’t stop the Saints from needing to draft a cornerback as early as 27th overall, but it gives them some depth and a possible stopgap starting option. If a couple corners go down to injury over the course of the season (like in 2013), you’ll be glad if a veteran like Champ Bailey is on the team. Hopefully that works out.
