<![CDATA[Another year of drafting is in the books and the Saints have come through the process well. In particular I think they hit home runs with the first two picks in Cooks and Jean-Baptiste as they got good value at need positions. Frontt is also a guy that fits a need if he can contribute as I believe he can replace a lot of what Will Herring did for the team. I'm less excited about the final three picks, but of course I'll reserve judgement till I see all these guys on the field. Interior offensive line remains a major need for the Saints, but otherwise the roster is really taking shape nicely. Interestingly I feel that 3 of these 6 picks are squarely made for special teams enhancement reasons. The Saints were very good on both sides of the ball last year, but clearly this draft suggests they believe the coverage units could be improved. Here are your newest Saints:
1st round, 20th overall: Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State
2nd round, 58th overall: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska
4th round, 126th overall: Khairi Fortt, LB, California
5th round, 167th overall: Vinnie Sunseri, SS, Alabama
5th round, 169th overall: Ronald Powell, OLB, Florida
6th round, 202nd overall: Tavon Rooks, T, Kansas State
Stay tuned for the undrafted rookie free agents the team signs. I’m especially intrigued by who they bring in at running back as the organization has a stellar recent history of getting quality backs after the draft that make the team.
