This was my final full day at the Greenbrier and I’m sad to see it coming to an end. Today was very much the massacre day as the Saints are starting to drop like flies. A lot of guys are banged up. As much as I can tell, here’s the injury status right now:
Drew Brees (oblique) not in pads, practicing a bit with conditioning off to the side.
Champ Bailey (foot) has been out, was on bike the last two days.
Erik Lorig (leg) did not attend practice today.
Jahri Evans (undisclosed) missed practice today.
Ben Grubbs (undisclosed) hasn’t practiced almost since the beginning of camp.
Victor Butler (foot/ankle) has not attended practice in the last two days, has been in walking boot.
Terron Armstead (undisclosed) missed some time with the 1s in walk through this evening.
Ty Nsekhe (undisclosed)
Je’Ron Hamm (stinger) can’t see him lasting on roster much longer.
Steve Hull (leg) was just waived due to injury.
Kenny Stills (quad) back at practice but being eased in.
Andy Tanner (undisclosed)
Nick Toon (bruised shoulder) left practice but returned
John Jenkins (PUP) yet to practice.
That’s a lot of players, particularly on the offensive line. I can’t imagine the squad the team fields against the Rams on Friday night is going to be too impressive. At this point it’s hard to know whether the team is truly banged up, or if they’re just being overly careful with players.
I do find it interesting that with all the guys down, Parys Haralson (tore his pectoral muscle late last year), Joe Morgan (knee tears) and Patrick Robinson (ACL) are all practicing and staying relatively healthy. Morgan has had some issues with his surgically repaired knee, but he seems to be fighting through it, knowing his roster spot is on the line.
Two guys that have stood out to me today are Ben Watson, who is quietly having a very solid camp, and Senio Kelemete. I actually think Kelemete might be more promising than Tim Lelito. Lots of battles still going on, though Luke McCown’s time with the 1s today emphasize these are far from over.
