NFL.com has posted a list on all Free Agents and Restricted Free Agents from all the teams. You can see them here. I plan on giving you my take on that. Today the 1st segment of a FA 2-parter; My take on the Saints FA’ s and who will leave or stay.
Here is my take on the guys that are FA:
Luke McCown, QB
I felt he would not make it through training camp last year because Ryan Griffin was just as good though he dropped of a bit in the last pre-season games. If he continues his growth he will outperform McCown this year. No need to keep a costly vet as 3rd QB.
Mark Ingram, RB
Travaris Cadet, RB (Restricted Free Agent)
Ingram is gone. Looking at what RBs are available in my opinion Ingram is the best at the position. No way the Saints are needy for Ingram the way other teams are needy for a good RB.
Cadet is gone too. He has shown virtually nothing this year. He will be back for training camp but he has lost a lot of value on the Special Teams department with the arrival of Jalen Saunders. He is not the new Sproles and the underneath throws are going to Cooks anyway. He is not the runner like other guys. He is a mix of everything but not good at any. Saints will get a couple of Rookie or FA RBs and make them look great!
Robert Meachem, WR
Why was this guy on the roster in 2014? Enough said. He might make the pre-season. But if he really can evaluate himself… he retires too.
Goody has played his last game as a Saint. I think he will retire a Saint and enter the Saints HOF first ballot. He is experienced but his body is worn down and it showed this season. Fresh blood is needed at that position. I am looking forward to Juge interviewing him after the retirement announcement. Maybe he could even be in the podcast!?
Patrick Robinson, CB
He might be back for training camp. It just depends if there is someone who thinks they can do something with his potential as a former 1st round pick. If there is someone like that he is gone (remember Jenkins being offered way more the Saints would ever have given him). The Saints will not offer much for him to stay. Rather spent that money on an other CB that is not a bust.
He will be back! At east if no other team forces the Saints hand and offers him more then the Saints can afford. Saints want him!
Ramon Humber, LB
Parys Haralson, LB
Humber is really decent. No starter but good depth. Good special teams player. The Saints sure would like to keep him though he might want to explore his options. In the end I think he will accept the Saints low-ball offer.
Haralson might be the key to the Saints playing better. I think Rob Ryan would like him back. He has not been a star player. He might not be perfect for the Saints scheme. I think he will be back for a decent 2 year deal.
Saints signed a new kicker about a week ago. He will be brought back for competition and has to really outperform the other guy for him to make the team.
Next up; my take on who the Saints could/should target in FA.
