New Orleans Saints schedule preview

Irritating, frustrating, maddening, bothersome and every other synonym for the word annoying can be used to described the 2014 New Orleans Saints season. The team’s rhythm never came into fruition but with the way the rest of the NFC South was performing, the playoff door was always cracked open.

The fans believed the Saints had found their footing after rebounding from a 2-4 start, by defeating the Green Bay Packers and winning at their division rival Carolina Panthers in consecutive weeks. But three straight losses followed (surprisingly all at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome) and the Saints were not consistent enough to make the postseason.

With 2014 behind them, the Saints look to get back to their winning ways and make the Superdome the toughest stadium for teams to visit. Although the dates and times are not set for the 2015 schedule, we can look at the teams the Saints will be facing either at home or away.

We can start with the obvious, the Saints will have six division games against the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints went 3-3 in the division last season.

The Saints are paired up with the NFC East and AFC South for the majority of their schedule with one game each against the NFC North and the NFC West. At home, the Saints face: Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans and the Detroit Lions. On the road, the Saints opponents are: Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and the Arizona Cardinals.

For the non-division games, the Saints do not encounter many top-tier quarterbacks. After Tony Romo, Eli Manning, Matthew Stafford and Andrew Luck, the Saints play against six teams where Drew Brees will have the advantage under center.

The Saints want to be stronger at home than they were in 2014. The Mercedez-Benz Superdome was a safe haven for the team in years past, but were 3-5 there last season. Saints fans aren’t just from New Orleans, and have a great following across the country. It’s an important year for Brees, head coach Sean Payton and the rest of the vertical passing game of the Saints. Look for the team to have a chip on their shoulder for people who have written them off after last year’s poor season.
