When you look at the Saints roster you get the feeling it is close to complete but they could still round out some of their needs with some post draft pick ups. When the Saints start seeing some of these guys practice, too, they’ll get a better feel for whether or not they need to bring in certain veterans at a given position. And of course there’s still guys that were with the team in 2014 still looking for jobs. The longer they stay available, the more you wonder about the chance the Saints could bring them back at some point just to compete, either in preseason or afterwards.
Jonathan Goodwin, C: I think signs point towards him retiring at this point. With Max Unger signed there’s no need to bring in veteran competition at this point. Unless something happened to Unger, I don’t see the Saints reaching out to Goody, and I know Goody doesn’t need to play unless the perfect situation pops up.
Robert Meachem, WR: Like Goodwin I think retirement is a very real possibility for him too. But receiver is so thin for the Saints right now, I wonder if they might bring him back to camp? My guess is no and I think he’s close to being done. But he could end up in a camp somewhere.
Moise Fokou, LB: He played for the Saints in a handful of regular season games last year, getting a couple special teams tackles. I don’t see any need to bring him back but he’s out there.
Brandon Deaderick, DT: He was in the rotation for consistent playing time and really disappointed last year. I don’t think the Saints need to bring him back, but they haven’t exactly shore up rotational depth on the d-line either. No free agency signings were made and besides a few undrafted rookies the only lineman they added was 5th rounder Tyeler Davison. Deaderick has recently worked out for the Jets and Patriots but is still looking for a job.
Pierre Thomas, RB: I find it absolutely shocking that Corey White has found a team and PT is still looking for a job. At what point do the Saints just bring him back for the veteran minimum if no one else will pick him up? I’m kind of serious.
Another name to keep an eye on is Lance Moore. He’s 31, coming off a miserable season and declining by the minute, but again, he could be valuable competition for the Saints. I don’t think he would make the 53 man roster at this point, but he could still bring some camp value. He finished with only 14 catches last year.
