Saints Mailbag: start of training camp edition

Finally!!! We finally have some real football to discuss, or at least we will in the coming weeks and months. It’s finally time to end speculation, end hope, and dive right into the reality of the 2015 New Orleans Saints…whatever that ends up being. I’m going to follow this post up with my own series of questions and ‘bold’ predictions that I would love it if you guys would respond to (either on here or on twitter at @kirus16). The idea is to make this fun and see just how crazy we can all get before the sad realities of football burst our little bubbles of hope. Of course it is entirely possible that we drastically undersell this team and they end up having a great season. That really is part of the fun of this year; it feels like for the first time in forever we have absolutely no idea what to expect from this team, and at least from an entertainment standpoint that isn’t a bad thing.

Without any further ado let’s get right into and see what people had to say:

It’s a good question. I think a good over/under for him is 8. My reason for that is anything equal to or greater than that makes him a great pickup and pretty much gives us the same value we lost in Junior, but with a functioning brain. (yup, still salty) If he gets less than 8 it doesn’t necessarily make him a bust, but in my opinion that’s right around the number the team is going to need from him if they want to go places. Just considering the variance in his rushing moves as well as his physical tools I would be fairly surprised here if he can’t get 8 Sacks in 16 games. Think of it like this, we have 3 bad lines in the division so if he gets 4 in 6 games there he only has to get 4 somehow within the other 10 to reach that number. That is more than a fair expectation in my book.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js This kind of feeds off of the previous question, and I am all in on this one. I think Kikaha is going to get 12 personally. I am fully aware that is ambitious, and may be a bit much to expect from a rookie. Still I believe with an improved secondary and linebacking corp as well as some bad offensive lines on the schedule he will get some extra chances to fill the stat sheet. With that in mind I am predicting 12 so the answer to your question is true.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsNo. That one was simple. I will explain though; it’s not that I don’t think it is possible, it is that I believe that to be the worst case scenario. Hill is a decent piece and I think he will find ways to be effective, but with that said if no one on the team can top him in TD’s that is a BIG problem. He simply isn’t dynamic enough to warrant that many targets. As of right now that could be a doomsday scenario because it means no one steps up to gain Drew’s trust over him. I think that is unlikely so I say no.
